Sunshine Special was founded by director Suzanne Price in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1986. Over the years, our preschool and child care center has been lovingly handcrafted to provide a warm, nurturing and creatively inspiring studio/workshop environment for the children enrolled in our programs.
Our approach to early childhood preschool education supports children's interests and growing understanding through the use of creative group projects. Through these projects children learn from each other and from teachers as they work together to investigate subjects and communicate what they are learning.
This approach is inspired by the early childhood education programs of a district in Italy called Reggio Emilia. For almost forty years, this region has offered infant and preschool centers that have gained international recognition for their creative approach to child care that respects the intelligence of very young children and offers education based on artistic self-expression and group collaboration.
Our experienced preschool classroom staff makes every attempt to provide for each child's physical well-being while allowing the children ample opportunities to develop large motor skills and coordination through physically active indoor and outdoor play. Within this environment of structured, creative play, your child can gain self-discipline and a positive self-concept while developing important physical, psycho/social and cognitive skills.
